Call for Papers

We invite proposals for full papers (20 minutes + discussion) and for posters on topics related to the central theme of the seminar (see 'Seminar Theme' in the menu on the left) - including:

  • Metaphors and/of/for diversity
  • Metaphor and discourses of inclusion
  • Frames and counterframes in the representation of disability and neurodivergence
  • Metaphor processing and production in neurodiverse and differently-abled individuals
  • Perspectives on the ableist bias in Conceptual Metaphor Theory and theories of embodiment
  • Real-world experiences of using metaphor in the context of accessibility/ inclusion
  • Investigations of disability terms in metaphorical and idiomatic expressions
  • Metaphor and accessible communication in L1 and L2 contexts

We also invite posters detailing work-in-progress, interim results and completed research on topics unrelated to the seminar theme.

Finally, we intend to dedicate a specific poster session to False Starts, Dead Ends, and Negative Findings in Metaphor Research, with a view to opening up debate and sharing experiences with the RaAM community.

 

Please note that the official language of the seminar is English.

To avoid inadvertent use of potentially offensive terms, and in accordance with the RaAM Code of Conduct https://www.raam.org.uk/about-raam/code-of-conduct/, contributors are kindly asked to make reference to the following sets of guidelines when preparing their abstracts.

 

Participation at RaAM events is reserved to RaAM members. This applies equally to presenters, non-attending co-authors, and non-presenting delegates. You need not be a RaAM member at the time when you submit an abstract, but you must join in order to present your work or to attend the seminar.

 

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

  • Abstracts for paper presentations should be no longer than 500 words (including references). They should clearly state User guidethe research question, its relevance to the conference theme, data and methods used, and (preliminary) results and their interpretation.
  • Abstracts for posters should be no longer than 300 words (including references).
    • Theme-specific and general poster proposals should clearly state the research question, data and methods used, and (preliminary) results if available.
    • Proposals for the ‘False Starts, Dead Ends, and Negative Findings’ poster track (on any metaphor-related topic) should clearly state the research question, data and methods used, and include some attempt to analyse or account for the problems that prevented the research from reaching its desired results.
      Instructions for the preparation of posters will be sent out upon acceptance.
